Ecstatic dancer moving to Portland-tips?

Aloha, I'm moving from Maui to Portland June 3rd. I'm a dancer- live to dance. It's my passion. I study all forms of it and regularly practice the 5Rhythms. I'm excited to immerse myself into the ecstatic dance community in Portland- a gypsy dipping her little toes into a beautiful new space. And I need a little help from the community. I do not know a soul in Portland- all my compadres moved on, so I need a place to stay just for a tiny bit (two weeks max) to get my feet on the ground and find my own place. I'm 24, female, educated, respectable and tons of fun. Ideally, I'm looking for someone who would be really stoked on having me as a guest and perhaps hanging out with me- experiencing dance opportunities with me, showing me the best local spots- whatever. If this sounds like something your into, please hit me back. Love and light-Danielle-daniellerubio873@hotmail.com

Snuggletown! 2008

Do you want to see Snuggletown! on the playa this year? Does the mission of Snuggletown and LoveTribe speak to you? Do you want to help us make it happen? If you answered YES to any of these questions - now's the time to get involved!

We've so far had two productive planning meetings, and this weekend we'll probably be inventory-ing the bus and tossing about more ideas for what ST will look like this year. We'll come up with a list of what we have and what we need. Maybe you have something we need. Maybe we have something you need.

We intend to be a presence at SOAK. so even if you're not going to Burning Man, there's still opportunity for you to get involved. We'd be especially grateful to people with generator/power equipment, people with DJ skills and equipment, past campers, people who know something about mechanical things (particularly old diesel school busses), and people with creative energy for fundraising, and decorations and fluff. If you're interested, drop me a line. I'd love to hear from you!
** Snuggletown! is a body and touch-aware intentional community that nurtures connection, communication, exploration, passion, and playfulness with healthy, caring, communal opportunities for affection and bliss.**

3/30 Dancing the Divine Fool

You are invited to dance in all your Divine Fool aspects at this Sunday's (3/30) Sacred Circle Dance, 10:30am-12:30 pm, at the Village Ballroom, 700 NE Dekum. Please consider bringing clothing, hats, & soft accessories to share in the center of the room that may help you & others embody all their foolish qualities (e.g., the innocent, childish fool; the adolescent sexy fool; the bold & hilarious adult fool; and the wizened old fool). There's room for all your foolishness in all its guises.

One of the participatory games we may play is not leaving in the same clothes we arrived in. Be open to embracing change as authentically & fully as you wish. This is the time of miracles and wonder.

P.S. -- Let us know if you'd like to come early to help set up or stay late to help clean up.
bart@qland.org

SPRING

Again, the violet bows to the lily.
Again, the rose is tearing off her gown!

The green ones have come from the other world,
tipsy like the breeze up to some new foolishness.

Again, near the top of the moutnain
the anemone's sweet features appear.

The hyacinth speaks formally to the jasmine,
"Peace be with you.." "And peace to you, lad!
Come walk with me in this meadow."

The bud is shy, but the wind removes
her veil suddenly, "My friend!"

The Friend is here like water in the stream,
like a lotus on the water.

The narcissus winks at the wisteria,
"Whenever you say."

And the clove to the willow,
"You are the one I hope for."
The willow replies
"Consider these chamber of mine yours. Welcome!"

The apple, "Orange, why the frown?"
"So that those who mean harm
will not see my beauty."

The ringdove comes asking, "Where,
where is the Friend?"

With one note the nightingale
indicates the rose.

Again, the season of Spring has come
and a spring-source rises under everything,
a moon sliding from the shadows.

Many things must be left unsaid, because it's late,
but whatever conversation we haven't had
tonight, we'll have tomorrow.

Finally, A Poem As Goodbye...

I wish we could have said goodbye.
I left so strangely, darkly, in my soul's night.
There are two ways of running, to and from.
And every time you think it's one,
it's actually the other one.
So now I have to learn what it means to bond-
To all the truth of each element and sound,
Each soul does dance, they whirl above the ground.
Pining to rejoin the higher lights,
Until the time comes you will have to fight.
Leaving is hardest when you're not sure,
What kind of life will keep your heart so pure.
But in your soul you know what to expect,
Your mind blows smoke into your heart, direct.
I cannot miss all of you more than I do now,
But you are with me, and I you, if you allow.
Spread the dance as deep as it will go,
And send the light high on every arrow.
Kick your legs and keep your hands spread,
Make ecstatic rhythms of your breath.
The harder pushed the body I do find,
The stiller still the quiet of the mind.

Earthdance Northwest! Sept. 14-16

I am most excited about this upcoming opportunity for creative fusion with other sentient beings of the Northwest and around the World!
I summon all who can to come be a part of this...And it is only an hour away from portland!
here is a little bit about the line up (copied from Earthdance NW tribe):

This year we have 4 stages of performance featuring a diverse lineup of Musicians, Djs, Bands, Live Pa's, Comedy, Spoken Word, Speakers and much more!! Playing a wide array of house, breaks, dnb, psytrance, chillout, psydub, dubstep, hiphop, IDM, glitch, breakcore, live elctronic acts, reggae, dub, worldbeat, funk, jamrock, pirate music, rock, soul, nu-age, and much much more!!! There is something for everyone at this year's event!!

"Down to Earth" Global Main Stage:

Scott Huckabay "The guitar Alchemist"....ashland...www.scotthuckabay.com

"With incense burning between strings, wearing bells on both ankles, the passionate ritual begins. The stage echoes, rolling like thunder under his bare feet, pounding a mesmerizing heartbeat. Dancing in a circle, shaking his dolphin guitar like a shaman shaking his magic medicine rattle, he lifts the guitar to his lips and howls the ancient cries from the deepest seas, leading us on a mesmerizing journey...

Scott Huckabay is a brilliant guitarist whose groundbreaking style incorporates elements of Rock, Blues, Jazz and Fusion. To watch Huckabay play the guitar today, you are struck by his overall mastery of the fretboard and the way in which his fingers fly up and down the neck of his acoustic guitar. Including using a meteorite for a guitar pick, Scott utilizes every known guitar trick and then adds a few of his own just for fun. Behind the explosive dynamics and pulsating rhythm of Scott Huckabay's alchemical guitar work lies an inspiring story of healing and recovery that is perhaps, more powerful than the music itself.

Baby Gramps....earth....www.babygramps.com

"Baby Gramps is an amazing amalgamation of everything that anybody’s ever heard including Mississippi John Hurt, Uncle Dave Macon, Charlie Patton, Blind Blake, Captain Beefheart, the Tuvan Throat Singers and Popeye. Baby Gramps has created a highly developed and completely original musical concoction that is easily the most intriguing synthesis to come out of the roots revival of the late 20th Century. He plays beautifully “betwixt the cracks in the piano” a la Ornette Coleman, can scat the blues three notes at once, and has invented his own guitar technique he calls “scribbling”. Gramps does amazing tricks with timing, timbre, tempo and pitch that no one can hope to imitate, and reinvents himself nightly, never performing a song the same way twice. Jazz buffs will want to compare the two takes of “Nuthin’” we’ve included on this disc (Same 'Ol Timelously) with the one you hear next time you see Gramps live. I call it jazz, because that’s what it is."~ Glenn Howard, American Musical Heritage Foundation

Kj Sawka....sea....www.kjsawka.com

"Seeing Kevin Sawka on the drums is the only way to believe the hype, the assumed exaggerations of his abilities: that he can play the most complex of jungle, drum'n'bass and breakbeats utilizing no loops and no extended samples -only his two hands and two feet. Whereas some artists claim to be performing live drum'n'bass, live electronica, etc., it's more often than not a drummer playing alongside pre-programmed beats if there's a drummer at all; Sawka, however, can perform each and every 808 bass kick, snare slap, and compressed highhat tick himself, in real-time." He was one of the highlights of the 2006 event and we are thrilled to have him back to join us after a summer of touring the world and melting minds with his one of a kind stage performance!!

Theory in Motion...sea.....www.theoryinmotion.com

"Still think Seattle is all about the alternative music scene? Well “Wake Up”, down that double shot latte, and get hooked on the hybrid electronic offerings of Theory in Motion. The Seattle duo are breaking down the barriers and stigmas often associated with electronic music with their cosmic blend of pop, rock, classical, and electronica. They call it “psy-pop”, you will call it amazing!" Come see these two at their first EDNW performance! It is sure to be one to remember!! Describing music as the first doorway to self realization, listeners instantly and irrevocably become aware of something greater than one's self. Theory in Motion's debut album "ARE YOU READY?" has been drawing comparisons to some of electronica's true heavyweights - Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, and The Crystal Method to name a few." Come see these two at their first EDNW performance! It is sure to be one to remember!!

Hotel/Parking info for Pagan Pride and apologies

Hey all! In case any of you are going to be coming to Pagan Pride from far away (as some are), I took the liberty of making a google map with all the local hotels listed.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=hotels+near+4690+Sw+Watson+Ave+Beaverton+OR&ie=UTF8&ll=45.485758,-122.806292&spn=0.013118,0.027637&z=15&om=1

The Green arrow is where the Masonic Lodge is located at 4690 SW Watson Blvd., with all the hotels pointed out around it. Also, when you come, I will have a map in the program with all the local eateries and points of interest. The Beaverton's Farmers Market will be going on Saturday from 8:30 - 1:30 pm less than 2 blocks away (we have a GREAT farmer's market in Beaverton), so parking WILL BE LIMITED. There will be street parking available, but you may have to search for it. There is a small public parking lot at 1st and Angel. You can see it on the map if you look at the satellite imagery. So, because of the limited parking, I HIGHLY recommend carpooling or public transportation. You can take the MAX to the Beaverton Transit center and then take either the #76 or the #78 bus to the Lodge. Both comes right to us.

I also wanted to apologize for the lack of updating on the website ( http://www.portlandpaganpride.org ) . We've been having some troubles, but everything should be fixed soon. The main things to be aware of is on Friday night, Sept 7th, OPENING RITUAL is at 7:30, with Belly Dancing and Drumming to follow until 11 pm. And Saturday activities, including workshops and demo rituals, start at 10 am.

If anyone has any questions about anything, or would like to volunteer in any capacity, please contact me, Mama Gaea, at 503-626-7078, or email g.a.e.a.project@earthlink.net

Thank you everyone, for your support, and I really look forward to seeing everyone there!
Radiance at SpiritDance, 7.13.07

Here is an opportunity for ecstatic dance for which i am creating a new series of fabric art to hold space in the already marvelous Crystal Temple!

RADIANCE at Spirit Dance .:. 7.13.7
Friday the 13th of July | 8PM - 2AM | $10

Presented by Metakinetics | www.metakinetics.com
At the Crystal Temple | www.crystaltemple.org
With Additional Support by Spun Academy | www.spunacademy.com

Come and bask in the glow of the white light as the journey of summer begins and new worlds of creativity unfold! Here in the temple the light will shine, from deep within, from beyond the stars, and from everywhere around us. We come together to focus this light and dance in this sacred space, being fully present and bringing nothing here but that which is of the light. We are honored to have this truly amazing and beautiful new space opened up to express our creativity and love for music, the heartbeat of the cosmos.

This is an intentional and magical dance event done with reverence and clarity, and we therefore ask that the space be wholly respected as a sacred and consecrated temple, which means bowing when you enter, stepping into the space with a pure state of mind, and bowing when you leave. Indeed, the intention is not to have a party, but an ecstatic dance of spiritual expression, done with complete presence. It is a place to heal by immersing ourselves in the music. We really do want to see complete and total sobriety here, to experience the type of fun we experienced as children playing, innocent and pure. Please come, and come with a positive attitude and a warm heart, so that we can all be together in the light, receive the light and heal.

8-10pm | Devon

Patrick is one of Portland's most seasoned downtempo and psychill performers, blending amazing beats together that transcend reality and bring down a powerful calmness to all listeners. His recent performance at Sacred Space X and his sunrise set at the Contact Festival were a great source of inspiration for many, and his presence and impeccable musical taste are always highly appreciated. He will be opening up with a set specially prepared for this night.

10pm-12am | Mandala

Formerly known as Mirror, Luke is one of the brightest lights in Eugene's vibrant electronic music scene. He produces many of his own tracks, and carries an amazing vibe with his sets, opening new worlds to the listener with flawless mixing and positive emotions throughout. Luke also runs The Vortex, one of the northwest's most powerful sound systems, and organizes Full Moon gatherings along with his production family A.W.L. (Act With Love). He will be offering on this night a special set of his signature funky psychedelic electro house.

12am-2am | Epsylon | www.agentepsylon.com

With the Contact Festival behind him, Brennan is beginning his summer performance tour with a newfound strength and confidence. The goal as always, is to channel pure love through music. He has begun work on a new system of magical music composition involving the correlations between sound-wave structures and the four elements. His first performance at the temple will showcase the first compositions made in this new modality of musical creation.

About Metakinetics

Metakinetics has been organizing electronic music events since 1999. It was founded with inspiration of recognizing the spiritual power of electronic music and the place that it holds in the hearts of young people today. For the current generation, electronic music is not just a music scene, it is a way of life, and it is sacred. Our events always honor the importance of pure intentions, the expanison of self-awareness, and the wisdom of sustainability. We encourage your active participation in our events, so if you believe you have something to offer us, whether it is music, decorations, visual performance, a new venue, a special service, or a helping hand, please do not hesitate to contact us. We actively seek volunteers and integrate new personalities into our events and projects. The door is open for your creativity to find its expression. Moreover, we recognize the importance of maintaining agreements with our artists, associates, participants and attendees. We never hold an event without the preparation required to follow through on all of our agreements.

5/12 What does your soul long for?

MEN’S SOULFORCE:
Through tarot imagery, storytelling, ritual, & labyrinth
Explore your passions/joys, wounds/fears, & the allies/keys that unlock them
5/12/07, Sat, 4:00-10:30 pm

Do you sense a deeper force operating in your life - a force that knows what you long for and what you're really capable of? Through exploring tarot imagery, story-telling, journaling, ritual, & walking a labyrinth, you can discover aspects of your Soul Force - the stories that propel you to be authentically powerful.

You can playfully and simply tell stories and create your own rituals to look more deeply at your passions/joys, wounds/fears, and the allies & keys that help you invoke parts of your soul’s story. In this workshop we’ll create a quiet, sacred space, and from within that place we’ll ask “Why am I here?” And then we will listen, and keep on listening. We don’t need burning bushes or perfect answers, just what’s true for now.

CO-FACILITATORS:: Paul H. Richard, a life-coach specializing in archetypal psychology, soul mentoring, and the use of evolutionary astrology, tarot, labyrinth, & other shamanic techniques to discover your soul's purpose; James Fabish is a licensed massage therapist & perpetual student and practitioner of the healing arts.

DIVERSITY: We welcome & are strengthened by adult men of all ages, sizes, shapes, colors, orientations, spritualities (and none), and backgrounds (including trans guys). Thanks for helping us increase the diversity of men who get invited to this event by forwarding this invitation to friends & colleagues who might be interested.

COSPONSORS: MenSpirit is a joint project of three non-profit organizations, Q-LAND, LoveTribe, & Spirit Hawk, empowers diverse men in the Portland, OR area to discover and manifest their individual & collective potential for wellness, community, friendship/intimacy, spirituality, & play.

Hello all,

I seem to remember that there's an ongoing dance group for families? I heard it annouced a while ago at the Sacred Circle Dance that happens on Sundays in Portland. I have a great friend with a one and a half year old child who would love to have a good space to move but the sunday group is mighty crowded and her little one is a bit too young to be free to move about the floor without people keeping an eye out, does anyone know when and where they meet and also could you tell me a little about the environment?

Thanks and Blessings,
~bird.

My name is Bethany (and my cat Emily), I am a 32 year old Artist/Sculptor (working in salvage/recycled material), spiritual but not dogmatic, friendly, fun, passionate, creative, expressive, intuitive, a great friend. I LOVE music, all kinds, mostly jam, jazz, ambient/trance, reggae, blues, eclectic folk, world etc etc etc. I LOVE to dance, it's my spiritual outlet...and like to go to live shows and dance studios to have that space.

what I love: ecstatic dancing, live shows, belly laughs, bear hugs, making Art, barefeet in grass, digging in the dirt, water (swimming in it, looking at it, being near it) junk stores, salvage yards, friends, family, new friends, new family, making dinner for more than myself, creating a beautiful home environment, sunny days at 6:00 when the sun starts to get low and everything glows orange, feeling free, expressing myself, connecting.

what I am looking for: a peaceful, cozy and beautiful home to share, with expressive-creative people who care about one another and enjoy life. A place to feel community as well as solidtude depending on the mood, a space to garden, a space to make create Art---a happy home.

Hello Ecstatics!

I'm looking for some suggestions for new music to trance dance to. Love all the basics....Dead Can Dance, Vas, some, but not all, Gabriel Roth, Professor Trance...newly liking Ali Azam in her solo work. But looking for MORE...MORE! Good drumming music...world stuff...some electronica, especially if world-flavored.

What do YOU like to trance to?

Entrancingly,

Hey folks. I have been ducking in and out of the Ecstatic Dance scene since I moved down from Alaska. But now, fate (and finances) are calling me back. I would so love a good twist and dip, but I am looking for something outside of the weekends (this weekend, Arizona -- next weekend, training). So if there is a link to events in the PDX area, I would appreciate it.

Brad Keeney Lecture and Workshop

Bradford Keeney Ph.D., will appear at Natural Way-Indigenous Voices on Friday evening, April 13 to discuss his unique approach to healing and psychotherapy, using the traditional teachings of the world's most ancient cultures. Dr. Keeney has worked at some of the most respected psychotherapy centers in the United States. The author of several classics in the field of family therapy, he has also written many books on spiritual healing: Everyday Soul, Shaking Out the Spirits, and Bushman Shaman: Awakening the Spirit through Ecstatic Dance.Bradford Keeney is accepted as an elder shaman and spiritual teacher in numerous cultures throughout the world, including the Japanese tradition of seiki jutsu, the Guarani Indians of lower basin Amazonia, the Zulu sangoma community, the elder Shakers of St. Vincent, diverse folk healers of Brazil, and the Balians of Bali, among others.

On Saturday morning, April 14, Keeney’s workshop offers an interactive exploration of the world's oldest medicine ~ Shaking Medicine. He will explore the ways in which various cultures have learned to awaken the body to bring forth the ecstatic experiences of trembling, shaking, and quaking. These highly charged forms of expression are characteristic of wild shamanic practice and the aroused ways of working the spirit found in the African Diaspora. Keeney will tell stories and provide illustrations of how to tap into this spirited way of being and use it to transform your personal and social lives. With music and rhythms, Keeney will guide the participants through ancient and new ways of inviting the presence of the life force. The practice of ecstatic expression stimulates creativity, provides an opening to the mythopoetic landscape, spontaneously triggers healing responses, invites energetic interaction, and re-charges and re-vitalizes mind, body, and soul.

The mission of the Natural Way-Indigenous Voices, an Earth & Spirit Council program, is to honor all traditions that value the earth. The Natural Way provides a forum for those who strive to preserve and enhance earth-based, sustainable living to share their traditions, knowledge and beliefs about the earth.
1/20 Men & Mentoring: the forgotten key

VISION INTO ACTION:
Finding Allies for Your Wellness Vision
1/20, Saturday, 2:00-8:00 pm

In many traditional cultures, men had mentors, elders, or allies who helped them clarify their vision and then embody and manifest it. In modern times, many men lack these allies -- men who provide a consistent mirror, encouragement, and potent questions designed to help them move from vision to action. We seem to have forgotten men can be powerful allies for one another.

In this practical workshop you'll work with a small group and an experienced Wellness Ally to clarify and act on your:
1) Wellness vision & goals;
2) Wellness challenges;
3) Wellness resources;
4) Practical next steps;
5) Sources of on-going support to follow through.

You'll also make a plan to give & receive on-going support after the workshop -- so you will have the allies you need to make your wellness visions become real, and not just another set of forgotten New Year's resolutions. You also be given the skills to become an on-going ally for other men.

DIVERSITY: We all benefit by having allies with diverse backgrounds and skills. We welcome adult men of all ages, sizes, shapes, colors, orientations, and backgrounds (including trans guys). Thanks for helping us increase the diversity of men who get invited to this event by forwarding this invitation to friends & colleagues who might be interested.

CO-FACILITATORS: Paul Fukui and Eric Zimmerman are experienced coaches and the founders of Q-LAND's Men Wellness Allies Program; they will be assisted by several other trained Men's Wellness Allies.

CO-SPONSORS: MenSpirit, a joint project of three non-profit organizations, Q-LAND, LoveTribe, & Spirit Hawk, empowers diverse men in the Portland, OR area to discover and manifest their individual & collective potential for wellness, community, friendship/intimacy, spirituality, & play.

INFO: Paul or Eric at or allies@qland.org or www.qland.org

Kirtan Workshop This Sunday Gina Sala. Also Monday Night Meditation. Nose picking meditation, etc.

Okay, I will keep this brief. We will meet Monday night at the usual time and place to become enlightened. Plan on a long stay. Go to www.mondaynightmeditation.com for details. We meditate, chant, stand on our heads, pick our noses, run around naked (not really). Now who could pass that up? We pass the basket to pay the rent, but that's all. If you don't have money, that's fine.

Gina Sala. Voice of an angel and heart of God. She will be in Portland this Sunday for a workshop titled Invocation: Voice into Being at Still Moving Yoga Studio on 10040 SW 25th Avenue from 1 to 5:30 PM.

Many people ask me about kirtan and what the chants mean. And I usually say, "Who can know the truth of these things?" Actually I say, "I don’t know." But Gina does! She once corrected me because I said Durgha wrong. I think I was saying, "May garbage collect in your driveway." For more details contact Gina at www.ginasala.com or contact Still Moving Yoga at www.stillmovingyoga.com. I wonder if that’s why the garbage collected in our driveway?

Hugs,

We will meet on the evening of New Year’s Day at 7:30 in Lake Oswego on the corner of 3rd Street and B Avenue, kitty-corner from the fire station in the building with the purple door. I want to paint it black. If you want to make more money or improve your sex life, please come. I doubt if it will help, but please come anyway. Go to www.mondaynightmeditation.com for more details. You can download some of the meditations there also. And follow the kirtan links. I get the same joy from kirtan as I do from dancing. You might too. Thanks, John.

This Sat, 11/4 Men Finding Wisdom thru Story-telling

Could you forward this to men who have lived interesting stories or who
understand the power of story-telling to help them draw on the wisdom of men of all ages?

MEN’S INTERGENERATIONAL STORY-TELLING
Saturday, 11/4, 4:00-10:30 pm

* Imagine being able to learn from the wisdom of men of all ages.

* Imagine who you could be if men of all ages helped you tell & understand your story, and you helped them tell their’s.

* Imagine story-telling as a tool for transformation & initiation.

For most of human history story-telling has been a crucial part of men’s initiation and empowerment. Nowadays story-telling has been mostly reduced to mere entertainment -- a mass-produced product to be consumed. This has cut men off from the wisdom of the lived past, present, and future – from actually knowing other men’s stories.

In this playful, creative event you’ll tell key parts of your life story to a small group of men of different ages, and they will retell your story in spoken word poetry, short skits, psycho-drama sculptures, paintings/drawings, and other creative techniques.

Our goal is for you to tell the story of your life to men of different ages, and for you to help retell the stories of other men – in ways that reflect you and the wisdom of the inter-generational group you’re apart of. Ultimately this is about friendship, play, creativity, and initiation through story-telling.

DIVERSITY: We welcome men of all ages, sizes, shapes, colors, orientations, story-telling abilities, and life backgrounds (including trans guys). Diversity on all levels helps us learn the many ways we can be men. Could you please help us invite diverse men by forwarding this invitation to any of your friends, colleagues, or acquaintances who might be interested, and by attending with them?

Hi, my name is Cass. I will be in Portland from the 26th Sep to 11th Oct. I have been doing Ecstatic Dance in Sydney, Australia for the last 2 years with a friend called Alena Whitworth.

One of the reasons I am coming to Portland is that I hear you have more than 50 people attend your Sunday Ecstatic dance. That is cool ! I would like to assist Alena in building our community in Australia to this number as well.

I have done some research and discovered Love Tribe.org, they are based in Portland and are having a 3 day conference camping in the mountains (29th, 30th, 31st Sept). They are asking me to confirm with payment so they start coordinating food, etc.

Has any been to this before? Would this be a fun, expanding experience? I am into drumming, dancing, and have vision of creating cuddle parties in Australia.

Thanks. Love Cass

New Dating Lab next Thurs 9/21: Practical Intimacy Strategies

"For one human being to love another; that is perhaps the most difficult of all our tasks, the ultimate, the last test and proof, the work for which all other work is but preparation."
--Rainer Maria Rilke

Could you forward this to men who may be looking for more fulfilling intimacy, and could you consider attending yourself?

In this fun, practical support group that will meet twice monthly, you'll explore with other men:

* What kinds of intimacy you want;
* Your intimacy challenges;
* Your intimacy strengths & skills;
* Practical steps you can take to give & receive the intimacy you want;
* Asking for & accepting the support you need to sustain real change.

This on-going workshop, which begins next Thursday, 9/21, 7-9 pm, is not about experts telling us the answers. It is about us supporting one another to find the intimacy visions and strategies that work for each of us. And most of all it's about figuring out what you can do differently in the real world to get more of the intimacy you want - and get the support to follow through.
Trance drummers NEEDED WANTED at NWFEF

Io! io!

All TRANCE DRUMMERS, are very, very cordially invited to come play at the Temple of Dionysos at this years NW Fall Equinox Festival Sept 14-17.

Join Bacchantes, Dionysians and Maenads and we promise you will be treated exceedingly well and served lovely and refreshing beverages by divinely mad Bacchantes for as long as you care to drum. In return for your service, your every desire will be met!

And please let all other trance drummers know!"

Friday :
3pm - Dancing with Dionysos* Main Hall

7pm - dedication of the Shrine to Dionysos* (Queens Cabin/ Temple Hillside Lodge)

Sat:
1pm Grape Stomp* Main Field w/ Maenads & Bacchantes

-You say you don't exactly know Who Dionysos is or how to go about trance dance? Then don?t miss our Friday afternoon workshop:

*Dancing with Dionysos- an Introduction to the God and Trance Dance:
Join us for this introduction to the main symbols and themes associated with the Greek God of Spiritual Ecstasy (and yes, Wine), Dionysos (also known as Bakchos). Learn how His ancient votaries, the Bacchants, used trance dance to connect with their God, plus modern techniques that you can use for trance dancing with Dionysos during this festival weekend.

*The Temple of Dionysos:
In honor of the God of Spiritual Ecstasy (aka Divine Madness), the Portland Dionysian community is hosting the Temple of Dionysos.
The Temple will be open for making libations to the God, meditation, and TRANCE DANCING all Festival weekend long.
Maenad priestesses and Bakchic priests will be available to paint mystic sigils on your body, tell you more about our Strange God, gift you with weird and interesting things, dance with you, or rend you as necessary.
Major trancing gets going around Sunset both Friday and Saturnday evenings.

*The Dionysian Grape Stomp:
Join us in celebrating the Mysteries of the Grape Harvest, sacred to Dionysos, the Greek God of Wine. Together, we will stem and stomp fresh grapes harvested from The Hallows Grape Arbor and make ?new wine.? This unfermented new wine (otherwise known as grape juice) will be served as part of our Saturday evening dinner. We need stemmers, stompers, people to help support the stompers (squashed grapes are a touch slippery), drummers, chanters, and other divinely mad people to join the Grape Stomp crew!

In addition, anyone heading for NWFEF Thorsday ,if you would like to help harvest the grapes (it?s really fun and kids enjoy it, too), you are invited to 'The Hallows' (home of Isidora and Adam Forrest)
at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 14.
(for directions, call 503-255-7910 or email miforrest@hermeticfellowship.org )

From there, the grapes will be transported directly to the Festival site!

By the way?did you know that the ritual of grape harvesting and stomping and the making of wine remained so sacred (and so associated with Dionysos) that far into the Christian Empire?as late as 600 CE?the priests still had to forbid people from wearing Satyr masks and singing traditional Bakchic chants while they stomped the grapes? Join us and don?t miss out on this fine old Pagan tradition!

Warning:
YELLOW JACKETS LOVE GRAPES. IF YOU ARE ALERGIC TO THEIR STINGS, PLEASE GIVE THIS EVENT A MISS. HOPEFULLY THIS WILL BE A SCARCE YEAR AND WE WON?T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS.

Io! io!

Men's Contact Improv & Motion Massage
Tues, 8/l5/06, 7:00-l0:00 pm

Contact Improv is an amazing moving meditation that focuses on the point of contact between two people. It looks like a combination of dance (movement), improvisation, meditation, & playful/healing touch. And it is more than these parts.

Motion Massage extends the awareness developed in Contact Improv into a highly intuitive massage form that uses the movement of the whole body to bring about healing, opening, and a nurturing flow. Inside your body blood, lymph, and energy flow constantly. You can get out of your head and sense the deep flows of your body and your life. You'll then realize you are a constantly flowing river that seeks to connect with the many other flows to become the great flow that is now.

CO-FACILITATORS Felix Roth, LMT & founder of Motion Massage; Bart Church, a Zen Shiatsu Practitioner & Yoga Teacher, Jeff Kerr & Daniel Flynn, who are long-time meditators & movers.

DONATION: $20-$50 (no one turned away for lack of funds; work-study & scholarships available)
Reclaim the Earth!

On Earth Day | Alex Steffen

Green is the new black. No buzz-phrase better sums up both the excitement many of us
feel about the blooming environmental and social consciousness around us and the
essential hollowness of the answers being promoted by many newly-minted eco-pundits.

The flood of environmental magazine cover stories, documentaries and advertisements
has pushed us over a public-opinion threshold, which is great. But the solutions being
touted by many of our new-found allies are themselves creating a new kind of problem --
people who should know better are selling a muddle-headed, style-over-substance, "lite
green" environmentalism at a time when we need to be rebuilding our civilization to avoid
disaster. To be blunt, we're being sold out.

People are being told to buy organic cotton T-shirts, keep their tires inflated and recycle
their beer bottles. But the reality of the situation is that the impacts of these sorts of
actions are totally out whack with the magnitude of the planetary problems bearing down
upon us. Those of us who care about the future of the planet need to reclaim this moment
from those who would have people think that our biggest challenge is picking the most
stylish vegan shoes.

With every passing day, we are discovering that things are worse than we thought. Our
climate is ripping apart at the seams at a rate that's surprising even the so-called
alarmists. Natural systems are collapsing. The ocean seems headed towards a series of
catastrophic tipping points. Economic inequity is producing a planet of billionaires and a
billion desperate people. Our political systems are suffering a massive crisis of legitimacy,
while insane fundamentalists, violent criminals and two-bit dictators (wearing both
uniforms and Armani suits) are stealing or destroying everything they can get their hands
on. Everywhere on the planet we find an empty consumer culture so accepted we barely
speak of it, except perhaps to make an ironic joke. We have placed a Great Wager on the
future of humanity, and the odds are getting worse.

In the face of this reality, recycling a bottle is an act so insignificant as to be merely
totemic. Paper or plastic? Who the hell cares?

In the developed world, few of us, essentially none of us, currently live a "one-planet life."
The vast majority of us, even of those of us who have committed ourselves to change,
consume more resources and energy than our sustainable share: indeed, it is very, very
difficult to live an individually sustainable life, because the very systems in which we are
enmeshed -- which enfold and make possible our lifestyles -- are themselves insanely
unsustainable. We're driving our hybrid SUVs down the highway to the Collapse.

Most of the harm we cause in the world is done far from our sight, created through the
workings of vast systems whose workings are often intentionally hidden from us, and over
which we have very little influence as single individuals. Alone, we are essentially
powerless to change anything that matters. We can't shop our way to sustainability.

I believe we are bombarded with messages encouraging us to take the "small steps"
precisely because those steps are a threat to no one. They don't depress sales of
fashionable crap we don't need. They don't bring people into the streets or sweep corrupt
politicians from office. They certainly don't threaten the powerful, entrenched interests
who are growing fantastically rich off keeping us locked into the systems that make our
lives such a burden on the planet and impoverish our brothers and sisters elsewhere.

Buying a hemp hoodie is not a blow for better world, it's at best a mere gesture towards
the idea that the world ought to better. And, here in the Green Spring of 2006, we must
finally admit to ourselves that gestures are no longer enough. That to be focused on
lifestyle tweaks and attitudinal adjustments at this moment in history is like showing up
with a teaspoon to help bail out a sinking ship. If the New Green degenerates into handing
out more stylish spoons, we're screwed.

We don't need more carpool lanes. We need to eliminate fossil fuels from our economy. We
don't need more recycling bins. We need to create a closed-loop, biomimetic,
neobiological industrial system. We don't need to attend a tree-planting ceremony. We
need to become expert at ecosystem management and gardening the planet. We don't
need another unscented laundry detergent. We need to ban the vast majority of the toxic
chemicals upon which our livestyles currently float and invent a completely non-toxic
green chemistry. We don't need lite green fashions. We need a bright green revolution.

To really change the world we need to hand out real tools: rugged, free, collaborative tools
for understanding the world and our role in it, for seeing the systems in which we are
trapped; tools for learning how to work together to either transform those systems or
destroy them completely and bioremediate the rubble. Tools that help us as people make
meaningful changes in both our own lives and the world. We need to make people
participants, not consumers. We need answers that address peoples' lives, not their
lifestyles.

We need to take back the ballot box. With the exception of a couple small nations like
Finland, most governments on earth are now seething messes of corruption, oppression
and entrenched privilege, and our government here in the U.S. is worse than many. We
need transparency, accountability, genuine equity, real democracy and human rights. No
environmental or social issue transcends the need for worldwide political reform, and none
of our huge planetary problems can be solved without it.

We need to seize the trading floor. Most large corporations, and most of the markets we've
established through regulation, incentive and tradition, demand that we participate (as
employees, consumers or investors) in ecological destruction, unfair labor practices and an
assault on the public realm. We need to grab hold of these economic systems, strip them
down to their component parts and rebuild them anew. That means supporting (or
becoming) clean energy entrepreneurs, green builders, sustainable product designers,
socially-responsible investors, and so on. We need a new generation uncompromisingly
innovative and determined regulators, planners, bankers, insurers. We need to take back
business as a realm of service and do away with the dinosaurs who dominate it today, and
we need an army of people ready to put their careers and investments on the line to do it.

We need to share. There is no sustainable future without a vigorous and lively public
realm. We need to defend the commons, from the air we breath to the culture we create
together. That commons is everywhere under attack from those who would privatize it for
profit and stifle innovation to protect the status quo, the way, for instance, that the music
and film industries are trying to take away our ability to freely (and legally) share our own
music and videos, because they're worried not only that someone might illegally share
some of their music or videos, but because the explosion of free music and video we're
seeing threatens their out-of-date business models. We must counter-attack, supporting
open culture and public ownership, and working everywhere to redistribute the future.

We need better mousetraps. The stuff that surrounds us is crap: toxic, wasteful, unjust,
ugly. We need innovation everywhere, real innovation, stuff that isn't just marginally better
or superficially green, but stuff that is actually, right now or as soon as possible, an order
of magnitude more efficient, completely non-toxic and closed-loop. We need to support
the folks out there trying to design these things. We need to laud their efforts, invest in
their inventions, and generally do everything we can to get better design, technology and
thinking applied to every aspect of our lives. Then we need to help regular people separate
the bright green from the greenwashed.

We need to grow new systems. The systems which surround us are awful. Some of them
we can hack. Some of them simply need to be replaced. Suburban sprawl, for instance, is
simply wrong: there's no way to make it sustainable. We should simply bring it to a halt.
Farming, on the other hand, needs to be reformed -- and through conscious buying,
political activism and ethical leadership, we can help steer agriculture away from
petrochemical factory farming and towards innovative local sustainable farms. Some of our
choices nurture changed systems -- those are the choices we need to show people how to
make.

We need to help each other. Consumer-based approaches and "simple things" lists tend to
reinforce our sense that the only sphere in which we can act is our own little private lives,
and that isolates us. But the isolation we all sometimes feel in the face of the magnitude of
the problems is itself a major part of the problem. None of us can change the world
single-handedly: as Wendell Berry says, "to work at this work alone is to fail." We need to
organize, mobilize, join together, act in concert. We need to seek out our allies and get
their backs when they need us. That happens through applied effort, not impulse buying.

We need to admit that we're at war over the definition of the future. There are a lot of
powerful interests spending a lot of money to keep people ignorant, make them uncertain,
postpone action, encourage cynicism and apathy, and lock them in the mental prison of
thinking that no better future is possible. To the extent they are successful, nothing we
advocate can happen. We need to fight back. We need to speak clearly, intelligently, and, if
possible, with humor and passion. We need to label our opponents (from climate denialists
to apologists for the status quo) what they are -- enemies of the future. We need to make
the nature of our times crystal-clear for all to see. We need to hew to the demanding
standards our actual real situation imposes on us -- that we achieve measurable
sustainability, honest-to-goodness one-planet living, for everyone, within our lifetimes --
and scorn the mental tyranny of small goals. We need to break through the meaningless
chatter around environmental and social issues, and point to genuine alternatives, hold
real conversations, and create a culture that speaks to the soul of our times.

We need, above all else, to show that another world is possible, indeed, it's here all around
us, though we do not see it. We need to inspire not only our fellow citizens but ourselves
with visions of what we're beginning to accomplish together, visions of what a planet
brought back to sanity will look and feel like, visions of how we will live in a bright green
future. That future should be beautiful and stylish, dynamic and creative, but it must
before all else be genuinely sustainable, or it's not much of a future at all, is it?

The world is listening. It's our obligation to tell it a better story.

poems, prose, art needed !

What? I am seeking poems, rants, letters, short essays, other writings, and photos of art made by/written by people who identify outside of or between the gender binary of men/and/women.

Do you identify as androgynous, gender-fluid, gender-queer, transgender, transsexual, gender-confused, gender-free, ungendered, or another identity other than “man/or/woman?” Do you feel like you have something to share with your communities?
** I am especially seeking voices that are traditionally underrepresented, including those who identify as being of color, disabled, of diverse religious background or belief, from working-class backgrounds, lesbian, gay, queer, pansexual, intersex, or asexual.

Why am I posting this to the dance tribe? I am compiling a zine that presents some voices of people who identify outside the gender binary. This zine will be part of a project for a class at PSU, however, I am also dedicated to actively engaging in conversations about gender in my communities in order to learn, to educate, to share, and to open up more space for those who are often silenced. Since the dance communities are my communities, I will be sharing this zine with my fellow dancers and movers here in Portland.

When? I need submissions before May 21.

Who? My name is Aline. I am a white, able-bodied, U.S.-born, gender-confused, born-female, 27 year-old, pansexual, college student from a working class background. If you want to submit to the zine (or if you have questions), please contact me at
503 734 6605 or
goddessdance@hotmail.com

Thank you !!!

Reiki I Classes

Reiki I Classes:

Two offerings coming up in NE Portland
Sunday, January 29th 2-4pm $75
Sunday, February 12th 2-4pm $75

Reiki I Certificate upon completion.

We will examine the history of this healing art, as well as practical techniques that allow students to begin practicing with the energy right away. Students will learn to do self-healings and healings on others physically present.

Reiki is an ancient hands-on healing art that promotes self-healing, relieves disease and stress, and encourages an overall state of well-being. The main distinction between Reiki and other hands-on healing modalities is an attunement process. This process opens and aligns an energy system which is already part of all of us.

Experience the shift possible when you unblock stuck energy in your mental, emotional, physical and spiritual field.

Jill Ahlstrand, Reiki Master
Questions/Reservations, please call me at 971-998-7222, or email at jahlstrand@gmail.com. Hope to see you there!
